Professor Ji Baocheng

Born in November 1944 in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, Prof. Ji graduated
from Beijing University of Commerce in 1966 and later earned a masters
degree in Economics in Renmin University of China in 1981.
Prior to becoming the President of Renmin University, Prof. Ji held positions
as a lecturer, an assistant professor, a professor, Director for Teaching
of RUC, Director of the Education Department of the Ministry of
Commerce, Director of the Education Department of the Ministry of Domestic
Trade, Director of the Higher Education Department and Planning and
Construction Department of the Ministry of Education, Director of the
Development Planning Department and Director of the Higher Education
Institutes Office of the Ministry of Education.
Prof. Ji currently holds titles as a Professor of Renmin University, a PhD
student advisor, a representative of the Ninth and Tenth NPC, a member
of the Social Sciences Committee of the Ministry of Education, Deputy
Director of the All-China MPA Committee, Vice Chair of the Market
Association of China,President of the Association of Higher Education
Marketing of China, and Vice President of China Education
Association of International Exchange.
Prof. Ji was an advisor for the Beijing Municipal Government and
enjoys the government’s special subsidy designated for national experts.
He currently is engaged in teaching and research in markets,
commodities, and business and marketing. He also has considerable
achievements in Education Reform, Management, Research and
Public Management.
Prof. Ji has already published and edited 23 books, including
Commercial Activities, Developing and Promoting Arts and
Humanities, Higher Education at the Turn of the Century:
Plans, System and Development, A Study on Market
Order in the Transitional Economy, State Management and
Governance in Ancient China, and Modern Educator of
China: JI Baocheng.
Over 300 of Prof. Ji’s papers have been published in more than
30 magazines and newspapers such as China Daily, China
Social Sciences and Economic Theory and Management.
Prof. Ji’s award-winning works are:
· A Text book for Marketing, Second Prize for Excellent
Text Books (1992)
· Market Circulation, first prize in the “Outstanding Teaching
Materials Competition,” held by the Domestic Trade
Ministry (1995)
· A Study on Market Order in the Transitional Economy, First
Prize in Philosophy Science (2004) and “Sun Yefang Prize”
in Economics (2005)
· The Project of “Text Books of Marketing”, with “A Text book
for Marketing (3rd edition)” as the basis, First Prize in
National Teaching Achievements
· Developing and Promoting Arts and Humanities, First Prize
of the Fifth “Wu Yuzhang Prize” for Humanities and Social
Sciences (2007).
Many of Prof. Ji’s academic research articles, such as “Policy Choice:
Generalization of Higher Education in China,” “Humanities and Social
Science, Worth More Attention in the New Century,” “Reevaluation
of Chinese Classics,” “To liquidate the industrialization of Education”
and “The Transitional Period Needs Tranquility on Campus” have
been published and used by a number of newspapers and magazines,
and have made sound impacts on the society.
Professor Ji is highly regarded as a leading member of the Chinese Higher
Education Sector. His efforts in promoting Higher Education Reform,
Humanities and Social Sciences as well as his contributions in promoting
Chinese traditional culture, resulting in some of the Chinese traditional
festivals being adapted as national holidays, have been recognized both
nationally and internationally.
Prof. Ji has been named as an Honorary Professor and an Honorary Doctor
by more than twenty universities in the world. He has won the “Founder’s
Prize for University President” and was given the title of “Top Ten
Innovative Talents” in 2006 and “China Think Power” in 2008.
