Impression of Law School of Renmin University

The best way, I believe, to write an article concerning my thoughts about Renmin University, especially the Law School, the new world which I just stepped into was enormous and overwhelming,  was to list as many notable experiences as I could and see if I could formulate something in which people may actually find interest. 

Even as outsiders, my classmates and I can still appreciate when we are in the presence something special.  It is safe to say that we students are often still in awe of and this University in particular.  In , we often take things of beauty for granted.  Personally speaking, my short stay here in Beijing has refreshed my notion of what it means to be beautiful. Renmin has been representative of the greater beauty that exists in . Between the culture, the architecture, the landscape, and the people, I have come to appreciate beauty in all aspects here.

One of the most initially striking aspects of this University is its aesthetic value.  The landscaping is vast, open, and well integrated.  A short walk down the street is enough to impress even the most cynical visitor.  The coldness of steel and concrete of many universities in the States is absent here because of the wonderful use of greenery and space.  It helps the air and provides for a pleasant working and playing environment not just for students, but for the faculty as well.  Renmin students are fortunate to enjoy such a beautiful campus all year round.

The facilities around campus have also made life very manageable during our short stay here in Beijing .

One facility in particular is especially impressive to my fellow law students and me and that is the law school building.  At first glance, terms like enormous, intimidating and powerful race through the mind.  The architecture is large and imposing and one standing in the center of its sprawling plaza cannot help but feel no bigger than a mouse.  But as intimidating as size may be, the building is indicative of the importance of law in society and the progressiveness of its implementation.  It is a signal to the community that study of the law is important, it is powerful, and commands respect.  The building is a commitment to the study of a growing field that will soon have a very important place in Chinese society.  And what an impressive commitment it is!  Everything within its walls is modernized.  The tables and desks are tastefully designed and very functional.  The rooms are most thankfully air conditioned allowing us to escape the summer heat. Our classroom is internet capable and the professors have shown their versatility in using Powerpoint presentations to supplement their lectures.  The impressive law school library is ever growing and already has an impressive collection on hand.  With all of these amenities have paved the path to success, all that is left for the student to do is to walk it himself. 

Helping to pave that path are our wonderful law professors.  They have more than proven their worth with their detailed lectures and knowledgeable insight.  Their impressive resumes and qualifications made it immediately clear why Renmin University Law School is at the upper echelon of legal education.  My fellow classmates and I have learned that the legal system in , though young, has made significant progress in implementing uniformity.  At the core of the system lie strong and impressive native values which emphasize harmony and good faith.  These are most noticeably present in the arenas of negotiation and contracting.  In the , society is often criticized as being to reliant upon the legal system.  Though this makes the legal profession very lucrative, I can appreciate how the Chinese attempt to settle matters prior to seeking litigation.  It makes relationships less adversarial and ultimately more harmonious. 

I am thankful for the opportunity with which I have been presented.  To study immersed in one of the richest cultures in history at the top school of law in the country together are more than any of we traveling students could ask for. 

This entire experience has fostered memories and most importantly friendships that we shall take with us forever.  Renmin University has been very gracious towards us and God willing, we may all return someday during our professional lives to reminisce on one of the important educational experiences in which we took part.
