President of Republic of Bolivia H.E. Mr. Juan Evo MORALES Ayma visits RUC which confers on him an Honorary Doctor Degree
President of the Republic of Bolivia H.E. Mr. Juan Evo MORALES Ayma visited RUC, received an Honorary Doctor Degree conferred by the university and delivered a speech on August 11, 2011. RUC President Ji Baocheng conferred the degree certificate and tassel on President Morales. More than 100 RUC teachers and students attended the ceremony.
Director of RUC International Office Tang Zhong chaired the ceremony, Deputy Dean of RUC School of International Studies Jin Canrong introduced President Morales’ biography and main contributions, RUC vice President Feng Huiling announced the Decision of the Degree Committee of the State Council.
RUC President Ji Baocheng delivered formal remarks welcoming President Morales. He said it was to honor President Morales for his great contributions to the growth of Bolivian economy and social development, as well as the friendship between China and Bolivia by conferring the Honorary Doctor Degree on him. Taking this opportunity, President Ji hoped the two countries could deepen bilateral educational exchanges and cooperation. President Morales marked the 11th person obtaining the Honorary Doctor Degree conferred by Renmin University of China.
President Morales gave the gratitude remarks and the lecture, saying that the Bolivian people had now gained liberation socially, politically and economically under the leadership of current government, and Bolivia had become a state with stable politics and orderly economy. He wished to promote the relations with China, especially in terms of cooperation in economy and trade.
On conclusion of the lecture, President Morales answered some questions raised by RUC students and teachers, such as the impact of President Morales’ family background on his concept of governance, Socialist movement & development in Latin America, President Morales’ view on the so-called “China’s Neocolonialism”, development of Bank of the South and so on.
Before the conferring ceremony, RUC President Ji Baocheng met with President Morales and his delegation. Representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chinese Ministry of Education and departments and schools of RUC also attended the meeting.
