Prof. Wang Liming, Vice-Chairman of University Council and RUC Vice-President, Attends the 11th Meeting of NPC-Canadian Parliament Exchange Mechanism

Invited by Hon. Joseph Day, Senator and Mr. Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament of Canada, Co-Chair of Canada-China Legislative Association (CCLA), Hon. Zheng Silin, Vice-Chair of China’s NPC Foreign Affairs Committee and Chair of China-Canada Legislative Association (CCLA), and his delegation of NPC visited Canada from June 3rd to 10th, 2009.

 

The Chinese delegation included Prof. Wang Liming, CCLA member, NPC Law Committee member, Vice-Chairman of the University Council and Vice-President of Renmin University. Hon. Noël Kinsella, Speaker of the Senate, Hon. Peter Milliken, Speaker of the House of Commons, Hon. Lawrence Canon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Jim Prentice, Minister of Environment, and some senators of the Senate and House of Commons also attended the meeting.

 

 

 

Since its foundation in 1998, China-Canada Legislative Association has played an important role in promoting the exchanges and cooperation of legislature between China and Canada, and has turned out to be a key way of launching bilateral dialogues. This June marked the first visit and exchange of Mechanism after the reelection of China’ NPC and Parliament of Canada at the expiration of office terms. Both sides launched discussions on such issues as bilateral relations, global climate change, environment protection, international financial crisis and so on. Prof. Wang Liming gave a brief speech on the progress of Socialist construction of law in China, and exchanged views on related issues with some senators of Parliament of Canada.

 

 

 

The Chinese delegation also visited Vancouver, Toronto, Prince Edward County as well as Kingston prior to Ottawa, and deeply discussed the development of substantial collaboration between China and Canada. H. E. Lan Lijun, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Canada attended all above events.
