Renmin Launches Relief for Earthquake-hit Area

Since the outbreak of the severe earthquake in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, students and faculties of Renmin University of China have launched relief work through different ways.

 

 

On the noon of May 14th, a large scale of donation was initiated in front of the No.2 Teaching Building. Lots of students waited in the long queue to donate money individually or as a class. Some of them also volunteered to donate blood right after they put money in the collection box. A student from the School of Economics said she heard from the news that the quake-hit area not only need material but also blood to rescue the heavily injured. She would like to help the victims in every possible way.

 

By May 15th, up to 3.5 million RMB Yuan had been raised from students and faculties of Renmin, part of which has already arrived at the quake-hit region. The Sichuan Provincial Government sent a gratitude letter to Renmin for its help. As the donation goes on, Renmin University will keep its concern.

 

 

 

Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Cheng Tianquan attended the students’ donation activity and released balloons to bless the victims. 500 colorful balloons carrying mourn and all the best wishes for peace and safety flew up to the sky.

 

A psychology expert and a psychology major doctoral student of Renmin went to Sichuan on May 20th to provide psychological aid.

 

The university seeks to know about the family situation of the students who come from disaster area at the earliest time. Special stipends will be allocated to them and psychological assistance is offered as well.

 

Encountered with the great calamity, Renmin students showed their love, care, strength and convince more than grief and compassion. Many students suggest that the earthquake did not defeat them but instead urged them to strengthened up and help people in need overcome present difficulties. “As a part of the Chinese family, it is our responsibility to do what we can to alleviate the grief and loss.” They said.
