About the university
President's Welcome

 

Renmin University of China is a new and key comprehensive university established after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Since its establishment, RUC students and teachers have always sought to put into practice its noteworthy injunctions to unceasingly strive to be at the front at all times, to seek truth from facts, to incorporate things of diverse natures, serving the world as we know it to be, and to cleave to the style of determined struggle and plain living. The RUC shares a common fate with the Communist Party of China and the country.  Through frugality, arduous effort, and active and practical explorations, the RUC has become an important teaching and research base in the areas of the humanities, social sciences, and management science in China. Owing to its efforts to spread and popularize Marxism in China, for its achievements in developing a flourishing endeavor in philosophy and social sciences in China, and due to its indispensable contributions towards the cause of socialist construction and reform, the RUC is regarded as "A Paragon in the Humanities and Social Sciences of China's Higher Education Sector". In the past 68 years the RUC has been consistent and persistent in its objectives to educate and cultivate talented personnel for the cause of socialist construction. The RUC has produced 180,000 highly qualified talented graduates who specialize in various fields, and the RUC has made great contributions to China's socialist revolution, construction, and reform. 

 
In this new century the RUC has further outlined its goals, principles and schemata for running the university. The RUC seeks to: "take culture and humanity into account when giving primary consideration to the people" that is to say, we should strive to build a world-renowned university that is approved by and which satisfies the people. The RUC has been continuously adapting itself to meeting the needs of China's modernization construction process, and has achieved new accomplishments in Party development and consolidation, in political and ideological work, in the reconstruction of its branches of learning, in syllabus remodeling, in scientific research, in academic exchanges, and in campus planning and construction. The RUC has rendered strong intellectual support for, and has made positive and significant contributions to the country's economic construction and social development. The RUC enjoys great prestige both at home and abroad.  
 
The RUC strives in its pedagogical endeavors to do "all that it can for the students, teaching, and research". An outstanding environment is provided for students from both home and abroad to learn and live at the RUC. The University is devoted to making students "outstanding exemplars of the country, and the backbone of the society".
 

On behalf of the university, I sincerely welcome people from home and abroad to come and study at the RUC. For the construction of a socialist harmonious society, and for the revival of the Chinese nation, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome people with lofty ideals from around the world to join the RUC in its development and construction, and to make their contributions with wisdom and vigor.
